| The lights were put out in Sydney for an hour in March 2007, but there was no blackout. Instead, people participated for the first time in what was called Earth Hour. The World Wide Fund for Nature in Australia had wanted to raise awareness about climate change and asked the people of Sydney to turnoff their lights for an hour to show support for this movement.
